WOMEN - MEN HOW TO WEAR PERFUME: The 6 Commandments for the Perfect Scent Trail

How to Apply Perfume: The Six Commandments of Fragrance Application

In our modern society, your fragrance trail can become your ultimate asset, whether it's for a special or specific occasion, an outing, with friends, as a single person, a couple, or with family. Paris Parfums reveals all its secrets to help you apply fragrance correctly, highlight your style and personality, and avoid any scent-related missteps.

Since the dawn of time, even back in prehistoric days, humans have used fragrances to attract others. Women knew how to select fragrant leaves and flowers to anoint their whole bodies. You can, of course, still recreate this primal gesture, but our civilization has refined and sophisticated this enjoyable and sensual act for everyday life, anytime, anywhere. I will touch upon this direct connection to nature and how to embrace it in life in a future article. For now, I invite you to revisit my blog from time to time to spiritually indulge in the world of fragrances and scent notes.

1/ Before perfume

How and for whom to wear perfume, is the very essence of perfume not to be forgotten: perfume serves to bring the other person closer. When you go to a cocktail party, you put on a little black dress, not jeans! Matching the perfume of the same name is already a first step in building your personality.

On the other hand, flooding the other person with perfume and making them feel uncomfortable is a step from seduction to rudeness and intrusion. In the 80s, when Poison perfume and more recently T.M.'s 1st star perfume were created, they flooded every office and every party. Consumers of these perfumes had the particularity of spilling their bottles all over their clothes in an existential and egotistical pleasure.

So you don't wear the same perfume to the office, to the cinema, with friends or on a date. Perfume shouldn't make you feel nauseous; that's an error in taste that you can avoid. The art of perfume is in the measure and consists in leaving a more or less sophisticated trail according to your taste and your knowledge of the subject. Set out now to conquer the perfumed Grail if this emotional pleasure tempts you...

Marylin Monroe, the famous actress, wore only three drops of perfume extract to bed at night. It's a nocturnal delight to be reproduced.

2/ Choosing the right fragrance

First of all, depending on the day-to-day or special situation, the moment or the appointment, make a careful choice of fragrance. Adapt the intensity of the fragrance to the specific occasion. This means having a choice of perfume adapted to different situations that you love. Perfume shops can help you with this, but beware of the overly commercial advice given by some superstores, whose objectives are to achieve figures and returns on investment that have nothing to do with the art of perfuming. Paris parfums will be happy to help you in this process.

3/ The daily application of perfume

It starts at the beginning of the day:

men: spray on a perfume that contains only fresh, invigorating notes, in the hesperidia family. After washing in the bathroom, apply it to the body in broad strokes, between 20 and 40 cm, depending on the mood of the moment, by spraying the fragrance directly onto the skin or underwear. This first step refreshes the skin and energises you for the day.

When you're ready to leave, add your favourite fragrance to this initial fresh scent on the inside of your jacket or coat, using broad strokes.

Avoid close contact with the face and neck, but the hair can be scented with a cloud of fragrance diffused high up, letting it fall over you.

women: choose either the eau de toilette of your favourite perfume, in the same range which is the lighter version of the perfume, or the associated perfumed moisturiser, and apply one or the other to yourself, after your shower or make-up, according to your daily habits.   When you leave, spray your eau de parfum on your clothes and on the inside of your jacket, hat, bonnet or coat, etc. The hair, especially the ends, can be scented with a controlled cloud of perfume.

4/ The application of seductive perfume, for an intimate evening or to pull out all the stops:

This is the must in perfuming, so build your trail carefully and in several stages.

Women or men, the steps are the same. In the shower or bath, choose a highly scented cleanser in harmony with and in the wake of your chosen fragrance. Your hair will be washed with your usual shampoo, to which you will have added and mixed an ounce of your fragrance in your hand. To do this, first spray your fragrance in the palm of your hand, add the shampoo and spray your chosen fragrance on top. Mix again before applying.  When you leave the shower, your hair will be deeply scented. When you blow-dry, scent your hairbrush to diffuse a fragrant trail through your hair.  At your hairdresser's, don't hesitate to take your shampoo and perfume with you so that you can reproduce the scented ritual above. Fragrant hair is a treat for men and women alike.

Then apply the richest, smoothest scented cream possible all over your body. Lipids or fats are natural scent captors. Skin that's too dry won't retain the fragrance; it evaporates straight away. Rich or even oily skin will naturally retain the fragrance better. Nourish and massage your skin with great care. You'll also need to mix the cream and two ounces of your fragrance in the palm of your hand. As in the previous step, two or three squeezes from the spray bottle are enough. Adjust the quantity according to the results you want. Massage all parts of your body thoroughly. This essential gesture is the backdrop for your seductive trail.

Before getting dressed, spray your chosen eau de parfum onto your clothes on their hangers at a suitable distance to leave a fragrant trail: trousers, skirts, blouses, ties, small and large dresses, jackets, coats and so on. The lapels and ends of these garments are the best places to diffuse a seductive scent every time you move.

5/ Applying perfume to yourself

Whether you're a man or a woman, applying perfume to yourself is one of the most sensorial gestures that I particularly recommend for those moments when you're feeling blue or when you just want to enjoy life.

For everyday use, choose one or other of the above perfuming steps according to your desire. You can also mix the different steps to suit your taste. However, the final touch of your eau de parfum should be sprayed on or under your hand, so you can smell your favourite fragrance at any time of day.

.

The first step is always to apply a moisturising hand cream to fix your fragrant trail. At any time of day, simply lift and bring one of your hands close to your nostrils to develop your senses immediately and feel the joy and happiness of your favourite fragrance.

For a warm and sensual night, make an appointment like Maryline Monroe and spend the night with your favourite fragrance as your only garment.  After taking a fragrant bath, gently massage your body with a soft, melting perfume cream, then finish with 3 or 4 touches of perfume extract in a 7.5 or 15 ml bottle. Use and apply only with the cap inside the two handles.  Use a sensory gesture to apply the chosen perfume extract.  Then add a drop of perfume to the bust or between the breasts.

Of course, this perfumed journey will take place on silk sheets. Failing that, your clothes should not be washed in overly scented detergents, which would alter and disrupt the scent of your favourite perfume.

6/Perfume tips to avoid, Paris parfums tells you everything

Perfume in general, eau de toilette, cologne and perfume, are sprayed with the exception of perfume extract which is used with the cap in direct contact with the skin. Spray from a distance of between 20 cm and 50 cm, depending on the desired area. Avoid damp, runny spots. Test and tame your perfume spray to diffuse a perfect trail that lasts all day or night.

Pulsation points and perfuming is a term you see written all over the web and in magazines, ‘perfuming at pulsation points’. It's a joke and has no meaning or interest.

The perfumes of the 21st century are designed to be scented on all parts of the body except the face and whatever the clothing. Our skin has a temperature of 38°C whatever the time of day, and European homes and flats are quite well heated, allowing the fragrance to diffuse around you.

In the same vein, avoid pushing, rubbing or rubbing the fragrance onto your hand or arm. Let it evolve delicately and don't rush to smell it. The heart and soul of the fragrance almost always develop after 10 minutes. Discover your new fragrance over time

Avoid over-scented detergents or fabric softeners, which can combine with your fragrance to create an unpleasant after-effect. The web is full of recipes for natural and organic detergents that you can make yourself. Your fragrance will then take on its full, long-lasting scent.

Be careful with perfumes that are too coloured, as they naturally contain colour. When you wear very light-coloured blouses, fine stains may appear.

Avoid spraying perfume too close to your nostrils, they don't like it and will quickly become saturated.

In summer or when travelling in hot countries, do not spray perfume on the neck or behind the ears before going out in the sun, even when going for a walk or shopping in the city centre. The natural essences in your perfume are photosensitising on your skin.
